Gauge Rees Takes Win at WERA Miller Round

(Tooele UT) After 2 days of battle in the high desert heat of Utah, 14-year-old Gauge Rees brought his Trackstar Racing / Yamaha R6 home on top of the box in the Utah Sportbike Association Moto 2 race. The win also put him in the points lead for the Class Championship.

“It was a fun race, we started behind 6 rows of Heavyweights and thought that would change the outcome,” said Rees. “Ryan Richardson and I plowed through those guys by Turn 5 on the first lap and I put my head down and went to work. I swapped the lead a couple of times and on Lap 3 I pulled ahead and led the rest of the race. I was really excited that my 2 teammates, Ryan Richardson and Josh Smith, took 2nd and 3rd for a Team Trackstar sweep.”

Rees was also able to secure a 3rd in WERA National Challenge C Superstock and a 2nd in WERA National Challenge C Superbike on the same day.

“It was a tough weekend.” said Kelly Rees, Team Owner and Tuner. “We chased set-up on Saturday, the practice sessions were short and we were only getting 2 or 3 fast laps in so we were making big changes to see where we needed to go. On Sunday I made some changes on hot pit between a back to back race and suddenly we were putting the bike on the podium. It was fun to watch.”
